Standard blood biochemistry assays were measured. Biomarkers associated with cardiovascular risk include those related to lipid metabolism (e.g. HDL-cholesterol,Apolipo A and Apolipo B), inflammation (e.g.C-reactive protein),haemostasis (e.g. fibrinogen), renal function (e.g. creatinine and urea) and diabetes (e.g. HbA1c and random blood glucose).
If the person gave consent a copy of the results was sent to their GP. They were advised to consult their GP if they had any concerns about the blood results.
The participants were provided with a booklet that explained the importance of the blood tests and reference ranges. You can download the booklet here to read in more detail (opens in a new window).
